Summer Session 1
American History and Literature Through Baseball. Mon-Fri, 9:00-12:00 ($350)
Poet Walt Whitman compared the game of Baseball to the US Constitution and determined it to be “just as important to the sum total of our American life.” Indeed, the story of baseball is the story of American democracy and progress. Students will learn and examine baseball’s role in navigating American social and economic conflicts throughout our nation’s history, including rural against urban, labor against capital, and civil rights against racial segregation and inequity.
