Poetry @ Poetry Foundation

Why?

There is an emphasis on the oral tradition in Unit 2, and some students have already expressed an interest in poetry as a form of story-telling. Students will visit the Poetry Foundation and receive an introduction to the organization by its library Director. Afterward, students will have time to explore the Poetry Library.

How?

Students will complete an FE Reflection Guide; they will practice and apply new and prior content/skills (setting, descriptive language). There will also be a new focus on listening/speaking and symbolism as we explore some poetry.

What?

Prior to our visit, we will engage with selections from the Poetry Foundation’s virtual Chicago Poetry Tour to hear and see different stories from and about the city. As we progress through the course, we will continue to study the stories poems tell.
